RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GRADUATION PROJECT MENTOR
A graduation project mentor is a staff member who will be assigned a number of freshmen to guide through the graduation project process. Mentors keep the same students for four years. This will give each mentor the opportunity to get to know the students and oversee the process from the beginning of the freshman year to the final assessment the senior year.  Note: the graduation project will be phased-in as described in the Introduction of the Graduation Project Manual.

The administration will publish the mentoring sessions in the Student Handbook.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GRADUATION PROJECT MENTOR

1. Read the Graduation Project Manual from cover to cover.

2. Explain the portfolio process/product to the assigned students, collect the Student-Parental Awareness Forms, and give them to the building principal.

3. Facilitate the students’ decision-making on portfolio contents.

4. Help with portfolio management by keeping the portfolios in an accessible and secure place, providing forms, samples, etc. 

5. Check regularly that students are collecting quality pieces that meet the requirements.

6. Provide opportunities for students to conference about the quality of their work, goals, time management, and reflection.

7. Listen and help students “get their thoughts down on paper” when they write the Portfolio Entry Forms. 

8. Complete the report card updates each marking period.

9. After the 5th grading period meeting, give the building principal a list of students who have not completed the grade level requirements (other than the inclusion of the report card).

10. Complete the Graduation Project Sign-off Sheet each year and notify the principal of students    who have not met the grade level requirements.

11. Help seniors finalize the portfolio and prepare for their presentations. 
12. Assist in the Graduation Project Final Evaluations.
