of CONNEAUT SCHOOL DISTRICT
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
Beginning with the class of 2002, all students who intend to graduate from Conneaut School District must undertake and complete a graduation project which meets the standards and provisions stated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Education. On April 12, 2000, the Conneaut School District Board of Directors approved the building of a graduation portfolio to fulfill the graduation project mandate. The Graduation Project Manual is written with the intent of providing each student with very specific guidelines and procedures to meet that responsibility. The building of a graduation portfolio is an exciting opportunity for each student to showcase the quality of curriculum work achieved, areas of personal interest, service to the school and community, and the steps taken to explore post-secondary options. It is in keeping with the Conneaut School District’s Vision: “… to be an exemplary system of learning that meets the needs and abilities of its students.” These graduation portfolios can be used as resume builders and also increase marketability to colleges and universities or for employers. The possibilities are endless. The Conneaut School District supports the philosophy behind the graduation project and the requirements. It is the district’s goal to provide a structure for students to meet this requirement without creating an unrealistic and overwhelming task. Although mentors will provide the direction and guidance necessary to build the graduation portfolio, the primary focus of this task rests with the student. It is the district’s hope that each
student will derive a sense of accomplishment by completing a graduation
portfolio that reflects individual interests and abilities. Let this
be a positive learning experience that will serve all students as they
pursue their futures as well as a state-mandated requirement for graduation.
Sincerely,
Dick C. Astor, Superintendent
